Giles Borten


Giles is a founding partner of Bass Capital and has a career spanning over 25 years in investment banking and finance. He has held senior management positions at UBS Investment Bank up to 2015 where he was Head of European Leveraged Finance for 10 years. In this period he also headed up Asia Pacific Leveraged Finance, European Corporate Debt Capital Markets and European Debt Advisory/ Restructuring business. Giles chaired UBS’s European Leveraged Finance Commitments Committee and served as a member of the Investment Banking Management Committee. In 2015 Giles joined ANZ Bank where he was the Global Head of Funds and Insurance. Giles earlier in his career also worked at J.P. Morgan, Hong Kong and Sydney, ANZ Investment Bank Sydney and Ferrier Hodgson Melbourne.


Giles holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Adelaide and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Nicholas Goh


Nick is a founding partner of Bass Capital with more than 21 years in investment banking and funds management. He was Managing Director with leading boutique investment banks Gresham Partners and Wingate Group, establishing and heading the divisions that delivered mid-market investment, high-yield lending and placement.  Prior to that Nick held leadership roles with Allco Finance and Transfield Holdings, and positions with PwC and NAB.  Awards include Structured Finance Deal of the Year in 2001 for the $400m Walsh Bay Property financing, and Fairfax CFO Magazine IPO of the year in 2001 for the float of Transfield Services.


Nicholas holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Adelaide and a Masters of Applied Finance degree from Macquarie University. Nick is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Christian Bernecker


Christian joined Bass Capital in March 2018 and has broad experience in financial management, corporate governance, accounting, taxation, investment structuring and private equity. Christian commenced his career in chartered accounting more than 20 years ago with Grant Thornton and was also previously CFO at PPMV (the private equity arm of Prudential Plc) and Investment Manager at Lazard Australia Private Equity.


At Bass Capital, Christian is responsible for financial management, taxation and regulatory compliance, and operational risk management. Christian is also responsible for Bass Capital’s operational risk management and the Group’s statutory and secretarial functions.


Christian holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Ballarat and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Australia.


Danielle Nicholas


Danielle has 15 years’ experience in financial markets, including structuring and executing on commercial and corporate finance transactions, and principal investing roles in equity and debt markets in both Australia and Asia.


Prior to joining Bass, Danielle was CEO of a Family Office in Singapore, and Director of Strategic Transactions in commercial real estate at Standard Chartered Bank where she focussed on Financial Institutions and Australian REIT sponsors. Danielle has also held a Director role within funds management at Allco Finance Group where she developed a strong track record in mid market advisory, private equity and debt.


Danielle holds a MBAFin from Bond University.

Michael Schultheiss


Michael joined Bass with almost 30 years’ experience in Capital Markets and Finance. He has held leadership positions in Europe, US and Asia with leading global Investment Banks Deutsche Bank, Citigroup and Nomura.


Michael also held Board Positions in a multibillion Credit Asset Manager and a Covered Bond Mortgage Bank in Europe while serving as Global Head of Treasury at Hypo Real Estate Group, one of the largest Commercial Real Estate Financers at that time. His expertise combines Global Markets Derivative Trading, large portfolio and M&A Transactions with state of the art refinancing solutions. He has built an extensive network through his career moves to Financial Centres like Frankfurt, New York, London, Paris, Dublin, Singapore & Munich before relocating to Australia.

Andrew Thomas


Andrew joined Bass Capital in March 2017. Prior to joining Bass Capital, Andrew worked as a fund analyst at Centuria Capital, an ASX-listed specialist investment manager with $3.6 billion in funds under management. In his previous role, Andrew provided analytical, research and strategic support across a diversified portfolio of commercial and industrial real estate assets.


Andrew holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Juris Doctor, both from The University of Sydney.

Sarah Brown


Sarah joined Bass as an Associate Director,  bringing with her over four years’ experience within ANZ, most recently with the specialist Property Finance unit. Sarah has a range of experience with credit writing, financial analysis, loan execution facilitation and loan management.


Sarah has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Finance and Economics from the University of Otago.

Lauren Hamer


Lauren joined Bass Capital in March 2018 and has over 4 years’ experience working in office administration, most recently with a global investment manager. At Bass Capital, Lauren is responsible for contract administration, investor relations, and fund administration.

Lauren holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Salford, UK.
